With your dog
Texel with a dog
On Texel your dog is welcome on the beach, in the forest and on the terrace. Rules differ per area though. This is what you need to know before coming to Texel with your dog.
On the lead or off
Different rules apply in different areas on Texel. In the villages, in the Duinen van Texel National Park and on most dikes your dog stays on the lead. In the De Dennen and Krimbos forests dogs may run free if they come when called.
On the beach dogs may run free in designated areas outside the breeding season, from 1 September to 1 March. During the breeding season and on supervised stretches of beach the lead is compulsory. Always follow the signs at the beach entrance.
Sheep and livestock
Sheep graze all around the island. If you meet livestock, put your dog on the lead and keep your distance. That applies in spring too, when lambs are about.
Good to know
- Clean up after your dog: always carry bags
- Seal on the beach? Put the lead on and keep at least 30 metres away
- On the terrace: just ask, most terraces in De Koog are dog friendly
- On the ferry: dogs travel on the TESO ferry and stay on the lead
- In the villa: up to two dogs, the garden is enclosed all around
A garden where your dog can run free
Villa 21 has a fully enclosed garden on the edge of the forest, with room for two dogs.
